With all the knowledge and techniques I had gained from the two-day camp, I was all set to start my practice journey.
I learned about the practice of Surya Kriya. This six-step program includes some prep exercises before the Surya Namaskar, a 21-step yogic practice designed as a holistic health, wellness, and complete well-being process.
As directed by the instructors, I started practicing Surya Kriya every morning. Due to a lack of exercise or any other physical training, my body was very vulnerable at the time. I didn’t have enough energy or stamina and would quickly tire. The introduction of the new regime made my body cry. In a couple of days, I was sore all over, and I felt that every cell of my body was resisting the new change.
I had a choice to make: Do I want the pain of discipline now or the pain of regret later? Thankfully, with the motivation and support of my loving husband, I made the right choice—I did not give up.
A few weeks into the practice, I started noticing that the muscle pains and stiffness were gone. I was feeling more energetic than ever, and my overall physical health was improving. I felt more flexible, strong, and balanced.
Weeks turned into months, and I continued my practice. I was experiencing a new vigor in my life. I felt more capable of handling stressful situations at work and was less anxious when things seemed a little too hard. I was able to sleep better, focus more on important things, and make rational decisions. For the first time in years, I was focusing on self-care and doing that guilt-free.
Slowly, my body and mind healed, and the chronic backache started to trouble me less. I observed that as I became more consistent with my practice, I got better at it and was doing it with much ease and comfort.
People noticed the positive changes in me—my acne was clearing up, I had healthy skin, and I had a more active lifestyle—taking walks during the day and spending more time outdoors with my kids. I was happier and content with my life and my new self. This was a newer, better version of me, physically and mentally more vital than ever! I thank God every day for bestowing me with this greatest gift—the gift of self-care and self-love.
